When I started working on these pieces, I knew I was asking a lot of people: to create something, and then — in essence — bury it. I knew I had to make one first. What I didn’t expect, and what has remained true since that day, was the emotional weight of covering the painting. I didn’t think I’d care so much. But at the same time, I wasn’t sure the painting was even worthy of being seen.
It felt easier to protect it — to guard it from judgment before anyone else could decide its worth.
I find myself doing the same in everyday life. There are parts of me I’d love to share, but more often than not, I hold them close, where they feel safe. Not because I don’t want to connect — but because sometimes keeping something untouched feels closer to the truth.
